The New Hampshire Institute Of Politics

Founded in 1999 on a premise that an engaged citizenship is vital for a healthy democracy, the New Hampshire Institute of Politics (NHIOP) at Saint Anselm College encourages students, faculty and the public to take part in the democratic processes that shape our local communities, our nation, and our world.

It is one of the most exciting initiatives underway at the College, combing academic, political and civic education programs that are intended to enhance awareness and engagement among constituencies served. Whether it's a political debate or guest speaker at the New Hampshire Institute of Politics, the common goal is to add context to complicated issues and to actively promote civic responsibility. As one of the few undergraduate colleges in the nation to offer such an experience, Saint Anselm gives its students unprecedented access to world leaders and renowned academic scholars. Housed in a 20,000 state of the art facility, the NHIOP has an auditorium, television studio and control room, a café, electronic library and learning research center, classrooms, and four academic research centers. The NHIOP is also home to the college's department of politics, but classes are taught from a variety of disciplines. Some of the programs currently offered by the NHIOP include:

  • Presidential Campaign Visits
  • Distinguished Speaker Series
  • Visiting national and international scholars
  • Faculty and undergraduate research
  • Internships from the NH Statehouse to the nation's capitol
  • Civic education initiatives
  • Debates and Public Forums
  • Town meetings
